«Luzhniki» met the «Moscow Challenge» On the Independence Day Grand sports arena «Luzhniki» opened its doors for amateurs of track and field athletics. On the field of the biggest Russian stadium passed the «Moscow Challenge» - the competition planned to be an idiomatic rehearsal of the World Championships - 2013. During the tournament was tested the work of the judges’ panel and all of the technical systems. More than 140 athletes of Europe took part in «Moscow Challenge». The most part of them represented Russia but there were also some sportsmen from Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Lithuania, Estonia and Serbia. Some Russians showed good results. So, Denis Alekseev came first at the 400m in 45, 73; Alexander Brednev won the sprint 100m race (10, 43). Ekaterina Voronenkova showed the best result in the same distance between women with 11, 43. Konstantin Shabanov won Men’s 110m Hurdles (13, 57). Ekaterina Martinova took first place at 800m and set her new personal best 1.59,18. In long runs Mark Tolstinin won 1500m, Ildar Minshin - 3000m. In Women’s High Jump Svetlana Shkolina defeated Tatiana Mnatsakanova only by the number of the efforts. Maksim Sidorov showed his best in Shot put (20, 45). The only non-Russian to win in Moscow became Indre Iakybaitite of Lithuania in Javelin throw (56, 28). All of the participants were much pleased with the stadium’s atmosphere and the organization’s level. Ekaterina Martinova: «The atmosphere and the energy here is smth great. On Grand sports arena you really want to run, and run as fast as possible». Maksim Sidorov: «The arena is wonderful. I can feel the unique atmosphere which is an important part of the successful athletes’ show. Will the stands be overcrowded during the World Championships in Moscow? No Doubt!»
